BIOGRAPHY
Xueshen Qiu (TJ) is an award-winning composer and percussionist specializing in creating music for films, TV, and games. He earned his master’s degree from 2022-2024 in Scoring for Visual Media at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying with the Emmy Award-winning composer Larry Groupé.
Based in Los Angeles, he is a composer who has collaborated with filmmakers from the American Film Institute (credited in “August & Ebony”) and the London Film School (credited in “Little Beast”). Additionally, he has worked as an additional composer for the upcoming feature film “The Dwarf King,” which will be streamed on the Chinese platform iQIYI.
In 2023, he was selected for “Project Involve,” Film Independent’s most vital and impactful program, where he collaborated with talented filmmakers from diverse backgrounds to create the short film “August & Ebony,” which premiered at the Directors Guild cinema in Los Angeles.In 2024, he achieved 8th place in the ScoreLive Video Trailer Competition and will have the opportunity to record his music with the Symphony Orchestra of Spanish Radio Television in Spain.
In addition to his composing achievements, he is also a percussionist. He began honing his skills in primary school and pursued percussion performance as his undergraduate major at Soochow University in China. During this time, he served as the principal timpanist in the Soochow University Orchestra. From 2020 to 2022, following his graduation, he gained further experience as a percussionist with the Shenzhen City Philharmonic Orchestra.
